Aircraft Down North of Fort McMurray

DSC_7820The Wood Buffalo RCMP continue to investigate the helicopter crash that occurred onMay 29, 2013. Police are working in partnership with several outside agencies including the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) who have been engaged in this matter. At the request of numerous media outlets a photo of the downed helicopter has been attached.

The investigation into the downed helicopter north of Fort McMurray continues however police can now confirm that two of the occupants are deceased. The male pilot and a female passenger both succumbed to injuries sustained from the crash. The third passenger, a male, has been transported to hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition at this time. Further details will be provided as they become available.

The Wood Buffalo RCMP have been called to a reported downed aircraft approximately 128 kilometers north of Fort McMurray. Police were alerted to the occurrence shortly after 12:15 pm, on May 29, 2013, and RCMP members have been dispatched via air transport to the scene. The Canadian Armed Forces have also dispatched two aircraft to the area for assistance in the matter.

The aircraft, confirmed to be a helicopter from the Fort McMurray area, was reported to have been carrying three occupants including the pilot. Further details pertaining to the occurrence including the exact location, the cause of the collision and additional information on the occupants is not available at this time.
