RCMP continue to investigate a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 63. This communication is to advise that Highway 63 is now open to north and southbound traffic.
One person is dead following a fatal collision on Highway 63. The collision occurred at 1:50am at Kilometer 5 which is approximately 45km north of Boyle. A northbound passenger car crossed into the on-coming lane and collided with a southbound semi tractor trailer. The tractor trailer unit caught fire but the driver was able to escape unharmed. The driver of the passenger car was pronounced dead on scene.
The collision has resulted in traffic being rerouted on Highway 63. Flagging crews are detouring traffic at the Highway 63 / Highway 55 Junction and at the Highway 63 / Alpac Bypass Road intersection. The detour is expected to remain in place until approximately 8:00am while crews work to remove the involved vehicles.
RCMP members remain on scene along with an RCMP collision analyst. The cause of the collision has not been determined but alcohol is not believed to have played a factor.
The identity of the deceased has yet to be determined.
