Illegal Stopping on Roadway Carries Fine

Wood Buffalo RCMP would like to remind the motoring public not to stop on the roadway while waiting to turn right Wood Buffalo-20131028-00225into Tim Hortons parking lot on Thickwood Boulevard in Fort McMurray. Not only is it illegal, more importantly it is dangerous. Fail to Obey a Traffic Control Device carries a fine of $172.00 and violators will lose 2 points off their license. This is in accordance with Section 57 of the Use of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulation Act. The traffic control devices are a series of “No Stopping” signs along the roadway before and after the entrance to Tim Hortons.

Police have been and will continue to enforce this law at this location. The chances of a crash occurring greatly increase in situations like these and the main objective is to ensure public safety by contributing to safer roads within our community.
