Shell Place construction on schedule as Nexen Stage progress continues

Shell Place remains on schedule and within Guaranteed Maximum Price following the fourth media update that highlighted progress on Nexen Stage and the iconic canopy on Friday.

The canopy structure, which will overlook the Nexen Stage and Molson Outdoor Rink at SMS Stadium in Shell Place, has become a feature widely identified with the Shell Place project. Designed to mimic the undulating northern lights the canopy feature creates a strong point of visual interest and will become a focal point for community events and celebration.

“In April we saw the first piece of steel erected for the new Field House at Shell Place, and in September we saw the construction really progress at SMS Stadium,” said Tim Reid, Chief Operating Officer at MacDonald Island Park.

“This month the canopy structure is also beginning to take shape. These amenities are starting to come together to form a cohesive picture, and give the community the opportunity to see how Shell Place will change our landscape when it opens.”

Several recent announcements regarding Shell Place, including CNOOC Limited and its wholly-owned subsidiary Nexen Energy ULC partnering with MacDonald Island Park to bring Nexen Stage to the community and Total E&P Canada partnering in the creation of the Interpretive Trail, were made at State of the Island last Saturday. The full slate of announcements also included the release of 10,000 additional seat reservations for the Northern Kickoff presented by Shell Albian Sands, the CFL pre-season game between the Edmonton Eskimos and Saskatchewan Roughriders on June 13, 2015 at SMS Stadium in Shell Place. Seat reservations for the Northern Kickoff presented by Shell Albian Sands

are now available at or at the MacDonald Island Park Box Office, located on the first floor of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.

“In addition to the construction progress and new partnership announcements so integral to the development of Shell Place it is significant to note that this project continues to meet both budget, subject to Guaranteed Maximum Price, and timeline schedules,” said Reid. “We anticipate strong construction progress this fall and winter, and look forward to providing the community with continued updates on the Shell Place project.
