Wood Buffalo picked up a couple of awards over the weekend from Communities in Bloom (CiB), an organization that recognizes beautification initiatives and fosters civic pride.
The municipality was named a 5 Bloom Finalist and won the Youth Involvement Award from the Communities in Bloom Foundation.
“The conference was a fantastic experience in that we were able to share ideas with communities not only from across Canada, but from across the world,” said Wood Buffalo CiB Committee Member Elaine Martens. “This region has a lot to be proud of.”
Judges Odette Sabourin-Dumais and Gerald Lajeunessse toured throughout Wood Buffalo last August and evaluated the community in six categories: tidiness, environmental awareness, heritage conservation, landscaped areas, urban forestry, and floral displays.
Wood Buffalo was considered in the over-50,000 population category in CiB’s 19th annual national awards ceremony along with communities like Trois-Rivières and Whitby. Sarnia won the category.
