Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges

On the night of February 19, the Wood Buffalo RCMP Strike Team was conducting patrols of downtown Fort McMurray when officers noticed suspicious activity involving a vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated shortly after which resulted in a drug investigation.

As a result of the stop 2 local teenagers have been charged. Tristen WADE (19) has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of proceeds of crime under $5000.00, he is to appear in court on March 11, 2014. Due to the age of the second youth, further information will not be released. Both have since been released from custody.

A total of 8.1 grams of cocaine, 210 grams of marihuana and $835 in Canadian Currency was seized.

“Our team has been implemented to combat all forms of crime with a mandate of crime reduction and public safety within Wood Buffalo. If a specific crime trend is identified, our team will strive to find a remedy to ensure the public remains safe” says Cpl. Dave Foster of the Strike Team.
