With the downturn in the economy, The Salvation Army’s Community & Family Services is seeing an increase in financial requests. With more job losses, many people are struggling. The amount of financial assistance given varies, depending upon the particular need. Financial assistance is now ranging from $800-$1500 plus per request/visit. On average, they see 100 people per week for a variety of needs – predominately, financial.
Known to most, the traditional Christmas Kettle Campaign has been the sole local fundraiser for this organization with proceeds going directly to their Community & Family Services department to help families and individuals not only at Christmas but throughout the year.
With family needs increasing, The Salvation Army will be promoting “Christmas in July”, a week of awareness & fundraising from July 13th to July 19th. The Calendar of Events includes two major fundraisers – A Christmas Banquet with Silent/Live Auction on Saturday, July 18th, 6PM at the Quality Hotel & Conference Centre and a Santa Run and Elf Walk for the whole family on Sunday, July 19th; more details to follow.
The Community will also see The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettles out at selected times & locations. There will be ample opportunity to support those in our community who really need our help.
Now is the time to get your tickets for the “Christmas in July” Banquet/Auctions. Cost is only $60 per person/Table of 8-$450.00 which includes a full traditional turkey dinner, door prizes, “Be an Angel” tree, opportunity to bid on some items you might want to give as “Christmas Gifts” and a few other surprises! A number of quality jewelry items will be showcased including a 14KT yellow gold omega necklace and a tanzanite and diamond ring with appraisal. You will not want to miss this event!
The second major event will be a perfect opportunity for runners and walkers alike. Families will want to spend time together while helping others. Prizes will be given for a variety of age groups and categories. Free t-shirts/refreshments for participants. Get your sponsorship forms soon and start getting those pledges!
