Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre (KTAC) has found a few good men and women as the curtain drops for the 2015-2016 season with nearly 70 dates to mark down in your calendar, as part of the 4-Play Drama series, Syncrude Arts Alive, Stage 2 and the Reel Performances: TIFF Film Circuit.
4-Play Drama Series
The 4-Play Drama Series presented by the Keyano College Foundation, Partners and Friends and the Keyano Theatre Company, has a movie theme this year with three of the four productions having made it to the silver screen.
“We open with A Few Good Men and from the movie everyone knows the (Jack Nicholson) line “You can’t handle the truth,” said KTAC Marketing Coordinator Nicole Benson of the dramatic courtroom story of two United States Marines accused of murder and the high level conspiracy the trial uncovers drama (Oct. 1-3, 7-10, 2015).
“Chelsea Hotel- Songs of Leonard Cohen (Nov. 25-29, 2015) is a story of a writer living in New York and they portray the story through the lyrics of Canadian icon Leonard Cohen.” Six performers will play seventeen different instruments in this unique drama.
“Into the Woods (Feb. 11-13, 17-20) is a really big production. A fabulous fairy tale with a different perspective on the life of a fairy tale character and a tale that ends with a little bit of a twist. Run for Your Wife (April 21-23, 27-30 2016) is a British comedy about a taxi driver who has two different lives going on with two different wives.”
Syncrude Arts Alive
Of the Syncrude Arts Alive series, KTAC director Alan Roberts states in a media release: “We are thrilled to have another fantastic and diverse season of concerts at Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre. Bringing so many different types of performances to the region allows us to foster the different genres of performing arts our community loves. This is, of course, made possible through the generous support of Syncrude and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, who we are happy to once again welcome back as the series’ presenting sponsor (Syncrude) and supporter (Alberta Foundation for the Arts).”
The 2015/16 Syncrude Arts Alive season includes: Blues tribute band The Official Blues Brothers Revue, Oct. 16, 2015; Canadian country star George Canyon, Oct. 23, 2015; Children’s entertainer Norman Foote & The Big Voice Orchestra featuring the Thickwood School Choir, Oct. 30, 2015 and to wrap up 2015 from Newfoundland,-folk performers The Ennis Sisters Christmas, Dec. 10, 2015.
The Cheesecake Burlesque Revue opens 2016 with a performance on Jan. 16, followed by One Musician 6 Guitars, Feb. 26 – 27, 2016; One man country music story Nashville Hurricane, Feb. 27 -28, 2016; Fiddling duo Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy: Two Fiddles Two Pianos, March 1, 2016; Hypnotist, Chris Visser, April 1 – 2, 2016; Classical soprano vocalist Marie-Josée Lord Trio, April 15, 2016 with the contemporary dance group Cas Public Symphonie Dramatique wrapping things up May 18, 2016.
