The team at McMurray Experience (ME) are welcoming residents to beat the winter blues by getting interactive at the Jubilee Plaza.

The 2016 list of events at the Plaza have already begun – inside and out – with a ‘Skate for Bo’ fundraiser hosted by the Regional Municipality of Wood (RMWB), as well as, ‘Lunch Break Yoga’ classes inside the facility. The next yoga class is scheduled for January 27 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

“McMurray Experience has something for everyone,” said Aimee Harper, communications & stakeholder relations of the RMWB. “Inside you can check out local art, get a free picture in our photo booth and play in the kid zone.”

Designed for guests of all-ages, ME is a one-of-a-kind interactive space and free to explore. Opened from Wednesday to Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., the community can also utilize the space to host a private or public event – inside the McMurray Experience or at the Jubilee Plaza.

Outside of the ME facility, the Plaza has a skating rink, which residents have already been enjoying. Harper said it will be the main source for the RMWB’s hosted outdoor activities. Activities include the city’s highly-anticipated annual WinterPLAY festival taking place at the end of February.

“We have a lovely rink built in the Jubilee Plaza,” she said. “This family-orientated skating rink is the perfect atmosphere for beginners who are just learning how to skate as mechanical skating tutors are available to help little ones who are just starting out with the basics. For the next few months, the majority of McMurray Experience’s events and programming will incorporate the Jubilee Plaza ice surface.”

Looking to next month, ‘Friends and Family Skate’ will be taking place at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., every Friday from February 5 to February 26 – excluding February 19 for scheduled WinterPLAY events.

“Each night will have a different theme and experience for you to enjoy,” she said. “Stay warm next to our bonfire. Perhaps you will see some local hockey heroes or recognize a mascot or two. You’ll have to stay tuned to find out.”
