The Peter Pond Mall is ready to host their 12th annual health and wellness fair – Let’s Talk Wellness, Fort McMurray – on March 5.

With 28 exhibitors set to showcase throughout the entire mall, organizers are looking forward to have the community come together to talk about physical, mental and emotional wellness.

“We continue to host this event because it gives the community a chance to meet and talk with service providers about a wide variety of personal and community wellness issues – all under one roof,” said Amanda MacPherson, Marketing Coordinator of Primaris Management Inc. at the Peter Pond Mall.

The free event is traditionally formatted in trade show style with a focus on information sharing.

“Some people may discover new services that can improve their health, while others may be there to enjoy the community vibe at Peter Pond Mall,” MacPherson explained.

Throughout the course of the event, six of the 28 exhibitors will present eight presentations and demonstrations at the mall’s Centre Court location; including representatives from Sangster’s Health Centre, Clearwater Physical Therapy, the YMCA of Wood Buffalo and many more.

Local fitness guru, self-help author and motivational speaker Lauren (L.K.) Elliott will be one of the presenters. Elliott has spoken at the Centre Court before promoting her novel: Confessions of an Ex Hot Mess, but this is her first time participating in the Let’s Talk Wellness event. She looks forward to promoting healthy living.

“Wellness is about making a commitment to your health, and connecting to your body, mind and spirit,” Elliott said. “It doesn’t have to be extreme. It’s about making little decisions in the right direction. It’s trying something new. It’s an adventure, and I hope to give guests some tools for bringing more balance into their lives immediately. I want to show them that living their best life is possible today.”

Elliott further shared it’s important for the community to recognize health and wellness in their everyday lives and engage in the conversation.

“We all have things that could be improved, but that’s never going to happen if we don’t feel comfortable having that conversation,” she said.

“Opening up that line of communication puts wellness on our radar. It gets people talking about it, which inevitably gets people thinking about it. Being conscious of our wellness is the very first step in improving it.”

MacPherson said Peter Pond Mall wants people to get excited about improving their lives and the community of Wood Buffalo.

“Taking care of yourself – and encouraging others with your example – can enrich everyone in your life and community,” she said. “Living well is also a community effort. Learning and sharing information about safety, arts, culture, sports, recreation and leisure all contribute to the health and vitality of our community.”
