Team Saskatchewan took home the 2016 Baseball Canada Cup after defeating Team British Columbia in the gold medal game on August 7.

The 2016 Baseball Canada Cup brought in provincial teams of the top under-16 baseball players from across the country with games held at the Baseball Stadium at Shell Place and Ross Hennigar Ball Park in Fort McMurray starting on August 3.

“On behalf of the organizing committee of the 2016 Baseball Canada Cup, I cannot express enough gratitude to everyone for their support of this event,” said Kevin Breen, 2016 Baseball Canada Cup Co-Chair and President of the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association. “We want to thank all our community partners, our volunteers, our community members and of course all the visiting players, coaches, officials and families for joining us to make this event a success.”

Team Saskatchewan won the gold medal game with a 6-1 score.

“Our sincere congratulations goes out to the entire organizing committee who put on a first class event for players, coaches, officials and spectators and welcomed visitors into their community with open arms,” said Baseball Canada Executive Director Jim Baba. “An event of this magnitude does not function properly without the work from dedicated volunteers and the group here in Fort McMurray should be applauded for a job well done.”
